2nd Announcement
Dear Colleagues,
Following the first announcement of February 2009, the Organising Committee of the 2nd International Citrus Biotechnology Symposium is pleased to deliver the second circular mainly concerning general news on symposium organisation, registration instructions and a call for papers.
Location of the meeting
The Symposium will be held in the Aula Magna, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Catania, Via Santa Sofia 100, Catania (Italy).
Symposium organization
Participants are kindly invited to select their scientific contributions to the seven Symposium sessions:
Scientific contributions
There will be one plenary lecture (by invited speakers) on each day mainly in the style of a review, followed by a number of oral presentations and posters, both about research on session topics.
Plenary lectures last from 30 to 40 minutes (including discussion) by agreement between key speakers and session coordinators. Short oral presentations last 15 to 20 minutes, including discussion; the exact scheduled times will depend on how many contributions are offered and admitted. Posters for each session are individually presented by the key speakers in the poster-hall at convenient times during working days.

| Session 1. | Genomics: structural and functional genomics, genetic and physical mapping, sequencing, cytogenetic studies; |
| Session 2. | Genetic transformation: technical advancements, applications for rootstock and cultivar improvement, and functional genomic studies; |
| Session 3. | Environmental and physiological stress: molecular tools and physiological methods for screening; |
| Session 4. | Biotic stress: detection and control of the major pests and disease; |
| Session 5. | In vitro culture applied to breeding and propagation; |
| Session 6. | Molecular biology of plant and fruit growth and ripening; |
| Session 7. | Fruit quality, health and nutrition including studies on volatiles, flavour, and nutraceutical compounds. |
No parallel sessions or working-groups are planned as yet.
